WHY WE PLAY
From Heartache Came Purpose.
Our family's journey with mental illness is long and deeply personal. We walked alongside our identical twin sons, Derek and Scott, as they lived with serious mental illness.
In September 2024, we lost Derek. But Derek's story is not defined by how he died. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend — compassionate, intelligent, funny and kind.
In the months that followed, we faced a choice about what to do with our grief.
We chose purpose.
And from that choice, Mental Health Matters to ME was born.

Start Your New Year with Purpose
Mental Health Matters to ME brings our community together through pickleball to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support individuals and families affected by mental illness.
Created in memory of Derek Ramsay, the tournament is a day of connection, compassion, and hope — and a reminder that mental health is health.
$23,000 raised for NAMI Maine at last year's tournament
Together, we can do even more in 2027.

Go Where Almost No One
Gets to Go.
Ten miles offshore in Casco Bay, Halfway Rock Light Station rises from a granite ledge with no public access. Only about 25 people a year have the opportunity to visit.
Through the generosity of Ford and Karen Reiche, one winner and three guests will experience Halfway Rock for themselves — traveling by amphibious boat, exploring the historic lighthouse, and enjoying lunch surrounded by Casco Bay.
A Community Partnership of $100 or more includes one entry into the drawing for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can participate when you register to play, become a partner, or make an individual donation.
The winner will be drawn during the tournament on January 1, 2027. The Halfway Rock visit can be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
